Walmart Applications Tips For Teens

One of the most common questions I hear from teens all the time is, “How old do you have to be to work at Wal Mart?”  Well, before you set your sights on  Walmart applications you should know the general age requirement to work at WM in almost every state in the US is 16 years of age.

As a matter of fact, there are quite a few restrictions if you’re a teenager looking to work here but the good news is once you turn 18, you are free to work where you want and however many hours you desire!

Teenagers under 18 can perform part-time work when school is in session as long as the work is not deemed hazardous, which means if you are a teen you can probably work at most any restaurant or retail job part-time.  You can’t work full-time because by federal law, you are attending school and you are a minor

However, on Saturdays and Sundays, minors are allowed to work 8 hour shifts.  Obviously, the whole purpose of these laws is to allow adequate time for childrens’ studies.

Before submitting an application for Wal Mart, it’s always best to consult with your career counselor at your high school to find out what the state laws are regarding employment for minors; in some states, you are required to obtain “working papers” from your state to be allowed to work.

It’s also good to know when you apply at Walmart that if you’re under 18, you will only be allowed to work until 10:00PM.

To have the best chance at getting hired, make sure you fill in your online Walmart applications with as many different positions as possible such as cashier, stocker, etc.  Also, put in your application as many “available shifts” as possible.
